Cheeni Kum.

Myself and Smita went to see the movie "Cheeni Kum" in Burlington's Regal Cinema in New Jersey. I was looking forward to a refreshing experience to listen to Ilayaraja's music in a Hindi film. I listened intently to catch a new tune or melody. A lot of the music was re-engineered from his golden hits. Initially I was disappointed. But I realized that Raja was offering something new, new treatment of the old tune to new situations. The music fitted very well in the movie and enhanced the movie experience.
I still don't understand if the maestro has run out of tunes or he is taking this up as a challenge to make the 80s music relevant to the current generation.

Or maybe Raja is tryin the trend his sons have set in south. There are a lot of old numbers being remixed and are a hit again these days! Eg : Enna ma kanna, Aasai nooru vagai, Vasantha mullai etc..
'Why?'as in the blog is good Q. But if the Q is good/bad, then i vote for it as good. Its somethin catchy amidst the pop or rap for us and also the prev generation can join us in tappin the toes. The Retro-effect is picking up! Am happy !
